With a massive 470 cubic-inch V8, and plenty of go-fast components, you'll never believe the bargain price. It's obvious from the moment you lay eyes on this coupe that it's no ordinary Nova. The paint has a sparkle that leaves it somewhere between candy apple red and deep burgundy. It's even a rare hatchback model, which was produced in far less numbers than the standard coupe. But that's not what's really grabbing your attention. It's probably the large power-dome hood complete with hoodpins. You can also easily see that the rear set of Weld Prostar wheels carries much wider tires. All of this tells you there is some serious power that's trying to be harnessed in this Nova. You get more hints of this car's power upgrades when you open the door. The black vinyl front bucket seats are newer and carry better grip and bolstering. In between those buckets is a fire extinguisher, as well as a performance Hurst Quarter Stick shifter that features launch control. When you slip behind the wheel, you'll notice it's a grippy Grant sport unit. Don't be dismayed by the original factory speedometer. The full panel unit is bright and clearer than just about anything you could pick up on the aftermarket. To the right of it is a full set of auxiliary gauges, including a huge shiftlight tachometer, mounted high so you can't miss it. No radio; no problem. One turn of the key, and the thundering exhaust note will make you forget about anything on the FM dial. Take one look under the hood, and you'll know what all the fuss is about. No Nova got a 454 cubic-inch big-block motor from the factory, but that's far from the only thing that makes this one so special. The block was built to 470 ci, and done professionally by Fessler Racing Engines in Troy, MO. It includes a Brodix top end combo (intake, head, springs, etc.), Lunati hydraulic roller cam, Lunati lifters, Scat steel crank & rods, Cloyes gear drive, MSD ignition, and Keith Black pistons. The exhaust runs into Hooker competition length headers on its way through a FlowMaster dual exhaust system, with performance H-pipe construction. Not only does it sound amazingly aggressive, but also the full package is rated at a whopping 592 hp! Getting all this power to the ground starts with the stout TH350 three-speed automatic, with 3,500 RPM stall converter. It then goes to a Ford nine-inch rear end, running a 4.11 ratio for serious power takeoffs. You know this was built to reliably hookup with the pavement with features like the subframe connectors and the full set of sticky Mickey Thompson Sportsman tires (including the wide 275/60R15 rubber in the rear.) There's even plenty of control over this wild beast thanks to features like the power steering and front disc brakes. We've got the full file on this one including the maintenance records and over $12K in restoration receipts. But all you really need to know is there's a plaque on the dash that reads, "Never drive faster than you angel can fly." Hurry up before someone realizes how much speed is here for so little money. It just seemed to hit the sweet spot of power, roominess, affordability, and style that made them an icon, and this 1970 example represents it all so well. The first thing you notice on this coupe is the bright yellow paint. It's the perfect backdrop for the Rally Nova black band that follows a horseshoe pattern, starting at the front fenders and seamlessly runs until it meets on the rear panel. This cool triple stripe just seems to keep pointing the coupe forward. The sporty paint and graphics are an upgrade from its more mundane Classic White original paint, and it's a reflection of this Nova's more athletic attitude. You can see other elements of this in places like the wide horizontal grille, gleaming chrome bumpers, and especially the 15-inch optional Rally wheels. The 1970s should have just been known as "Black Vinyl," because that's what the best records came on, and the most durable interiors were made of it. The seats, doors, and headliner don't look like they are celebrating 45 years on this earth. The inside really highlights the practicality of this classic coupe. Lots of legroom, and two bench seats mean this actually can seat six comfortably, and there are seatbelts for all. Plus, the power steering and power brakes (discs up front) mean you won't get worn-out taking the whole family on an extended Saturday cruise. But don't be fooled by its domestic appearance. The full set of Sun Pro gauges under the dash are a nice clue to some hijinks available under the hood (these dials for oil, voltage, and temperature also provide vital info too!) This Nova has the highly desirable 350 cubic-inch V8 mated to a three-speed automatic transmission. This is the correct spec engine size, but this coupe benefits from a younger motor under the hood. It also has been updated with a cool set of valve covers, and matching air cleaner with aggressive red lettering on matte black. In fact, that's the point of a car like this. The 350 small block is not only a motor with great power from the factory, but also it's so well supported in the aftermarket community that there are plenty of affordable parts to get as wild as you like. You can buy this Nova today, and it's turnkey ready to go cruising with a mean-sounding V8 and dual exhaust. But at this affordable price, you will have the option and finances to continue to transform this coupe into your dream tire-smoking coupe/muscle/pro-street machine in the future. This Nova has the cool muscle car look mixed with practical features and an affordable price. It's the coupe you buy now, enjoy it, and it should only get better for tomorrow. 1969 Chevy Nova SS Clone with an Aluminum Head 355 SBC V-8, 4 Speed Manual Transmission, Big 10-Bolt Posi rear end, Power Steering, Power Brakes(Disc Front & Drum Rear), Aluminum Radiator, and front anti-sway bar. The engine was built in August of 2010 and driven approximately 500 miles per year since then. Then in 2011 an 8.5" Big 10-Bolt rear end was installed, from a 1973 Nova, with new 3.23 gears, a new Posi unit, new 4 leaf multi-leaf springs, new shackles, bushings, U-bolts, and U-Joints. In addition, the front and rear frames were connected with weld-in frame connectors to stiffen the chassis. The 3.23 gears pair well with the 3 Groove Saginaw 4 Speed with 3.50, 2.48, 1.65, and 1.00 gear ratios. This set-up gives you a very strong 1st and 2nd gear with a great highway cruising 4th gear. The car runs very reliably with no issues. Gas and Go! The car also has power disc front brakes with drum rear brakes and a front line lock. The electrical system is also up-to-date with a new starter, powermaster alternator, and Optima RedTop battery. The paint is in very good shape overall and has a few(3-4) small nicks/chips and paint bubbles that are not an issue but if someone wants a perfect show car they may want to fix them over time. Otherwise, it's a hard paint finish that shines and is bright red wherever you go. I would estimate that the car was painted 6-7 years ago just before I bought it. I have records on all of the parts used and pictures of every part of the build! Clear NC Title. The car can be viewed in-person in Charlotte, NC.(Please contact me to schedule a time) Don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions! 355 Small Block Chevy – Built in August 2010 • 4 Bolt Main Block - 4.030” bore (#3970010) - Bored .030”, line honed, decked .010” • 3.48” Stroke Nodular Iron GM Crankshaft (#93426651) • Scat 5.7” Forged 4340 Steel I-Beam Rods with SPS bolts • Speed Pro Duroshield Hypereutectic Flat Top 4 Valve Relief Pistons • Lunati Voodoo 262/268 Hydraulic Cam • Pro Comp 210cc Heads with 64cc Chambers - Vortec Port Design • 2.02” Intake Valves and 1.60” Exhaust Valves • Manley 460 lb. And since pretty much everyone here at RK Motors Charlotte is a gearhead, we know the kind of dedication a high dollar project takes. That said; it seems every time we think we've seen it all, another completely amazing car comes through the doors and just knocks our socks off! This eye-catching Nova is a head-turning stunner that mixes 540 cubic inches of Shafiroff Racing V8 with a tough automatic, thoroughly updated chassis components and one-of-a-kind aesthetics. And if you're ready to feel the summer breeze behind the wheel of a storied Detroit legend, it's a chance to turn your lust worthy dreams into fantastic reality! BODYWORK/TRIM Built to be an attention-grabbing showpiece, this brilliant coupe features a detailed, custom appearance that's highlighted by a spectacular combination of vivid pigment and mirror-like accents. Take one look down the sides of the car's slick body and it becomes very obvious that great care was taken to ensure all gaps are at better-than-factory standards. Step closer to the car's wet looking finish and check out straight and ripple-free panels that aren't plagued by any rust or major imperfections. Grab the car's well-adjusted hood and feel how smoothly it opens to provide excellent fit, which is set off by a glossy clearcoat shine. It all adds up to one top-notch resto-mod that transforms traditional muscle car style into colorful street rod swagger! The subdued and classy lines of the prototypical Nova are early '60s conservative. And because they're so universal in appeal, they've continued to gain significant popularity. At the front of this hardtop, a familiar crossbar grille hangs green-detailed badging between a fresh chrome bumper, green-tint parking lamps and half moon-covered headlights. A steel hood anchors chrome "COWL INDUCTION" lettering in front of smoked glass, polished stainless, and a shaved and filled cowl panel. At the sides of that hood, a clean, modernist profile centers custom fender emblems and traditional quarter scripts between straight wheel frames, chrome door handles and green-detailed mirrors. And at the back of the car, Super Sport trunk trim hangs more green-detailed badging between vertical tail lamps and a second chrome bumper. ENGINE Under the hood, 540 cubic inches of UltraStreet V8 offers plenty of solid motivation thanks to the fine folks at Bohemia, New York's Shafiroff Racing. According to the 2006 dyno sheet that's included with our sale, the buff mill, which combines a sturdy Merlin block with proven Brodix heads, twists 600 horsepower into 641 lb./ft. of burly torque. At the top of the black block, a JEGS-controlled Holley mixes high-octane fuel, sourced from stainless fluid lines, with wind that's supplied by a style-matched, green-detailed K&N filter. That air/fuel mixture floods an Edelbrock Victor Jr. intake, which centers a polished water neck between polished breathers and polished, "540" branded valve covers. At the back of that intake, an MSD Pro-Billet distributor bridges the gap between a proven Comp cam and loomed MSD Super Conductor plug wires. Below those wires, ceramic-coated, long-tube headers make quick work of spent gases. At the front of those headers, billet pulleys spin a beefy Stewart water pump and polished alternator at the base of a chrome fuel regulator and Auto Gage pressure gauge. Cooling comes courtesy of a green-detailed radiator, which funnels anti-freeze around two SPAL puller fans thanks to polished GM clamps and pliable hoses. The car's reinforced and color-keyed engine bay features coated hood supports, clever heat extractors and a snazzy chrome latch. And items like trick dipsticks, a fabricated overflow tank, a small proportioning valve and a chrome master cylinder ensure first class detailing. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION Take a long look under this lightweight X-Body and you'll find a whole roster of small modifications that add up to impressive appearance points and big performance gains. The big 540 spins a tough 700R4 4-speed, which twists an "ULTIMATE-10" branded 10-bolt. Holding that stellar drivetrain off the ground is a fully sorted suspension, which benefits from a Chassisworks subframe, adjustable VariShock coil-overs, mono-leaf springs and manual rack-and-pinion steering. Stops come quickly thanks to two factory drums, two slotted rotors and two green-trimmed Wilwood calipers. Spent gases are managed by large, Mandrel-bent pipes, which make good use of an X-shaped crossover and clean Flowmaster-style mufflers. Power pounds the pavement through Billet Specialties Fast Lanes, which spin 205/45ZR17 BF Goodrich g-Force Sports in front of 245/45ZR17 BF Goodrich g-Force Sports. And, like any carefully preserved classic, the bottom of this Nova is as fit as its top, with Satin Black floors framing a finned transmission cooler, sturdy subframe connectors, Holley fuel components and a fresh fuel tank. INTERIOR Inside this Chevy, classic style is augmented with seamlessly integrated customization. The car's bench and bucket seats display pleated vinyl covers that fit without any significant wrinkles or creases. In front of those thrones, a green-detailed dash frames a full array of Auto Meter Carbon Fiber Ultra-Lite gauges. At the base of that dash, a custom, green-trimmed console centers a small Lokar shifter between a billet cupholder, a bowtie-branded armrest, billet foot pedals and fade-free carpet. Opposite that console, clean door skins center chrome handles between factory armrests and green window frames. In front of the driver, an aftermarket steering wheel laps a tilting column. And behind the passengers, a textured package tray hides a custom-upholstered trunk. OUR SALE INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTATIONThe aforementioned dyno resultsA stack of build receiptsA stack of component literature So there you have it: an incredible looking Chevy that wraps an incredible drivetrain in a capable chassis and a comfortable interior. Seldom do you find a well-done, non-kustom classic that's infused with this much street rod swagger. Think about it: 540 cubic inches of Shafiroff Racing V8, a modern transmission, a straight body and plenty of documentation. No serious hot rodder would pass on an opportunity like this! It has a mean stance, great chrome, and HUGE power. Best of all, this Nova has a sleeper-like look that will fool some at the stoplights, but it has so many custom touches that real enthusiasts instantly know how cool this coupe really is. Originally a glacier blue car, that lighter hue was not going to be right for all the mean machine upgrades for this Nova. So its been swapped for a darker, metallic blue that has a great sheen in the sunshine. Of course, the laser-straight body with uniform gaps help highlight the real attractiveness of this coupe. There's just something really cool about the profile on a Nova that has taller rear wheels and raised suspension. It gives the car an aggressive stance that goes beyond the SS badging, like it's leaning in to really say, "Don't mess with me!" But as much custom work that has gone into this car, it also gets respect with nice original touches, such as the large chrome bumpers and the rally wheels. The interior is every bit as nicely finished, with high back bucket seats, great-looking door panels that include silver inserts, and fresh carpeting. While this is comfortable for all five occupants, this Nova is clearly a driver's car. The three-spoke Grant steering wheel is a smaller diameter than standard to help take advantage of the power steering. Under the dash there are new gauges for oil, water, and power. These are the first indications that there is something special under the hood. We've been alluding to the power given off by the monster powerplant, and now it's time for all the details. Usually the advantage of a 383 cubic-inch motor is that it combines big block power with small block weight, but this one goes one step further. The V8 in this Nova is a custom build lightweight all-aluminum engine. Added to this package are go-fast goodies such as the aluminum heads, MSD electronic ignition, Moroso air cleaner, performance intake, and Jet-Hot coated headers. The full package was dyno tested to produce over 500 hp - that's right, you're running plenty more power than a new Corvette! Plus, there's a cross-pipe Magnaflow exhaust, which lets off a rumble that's more intimidating than a drill sergeant. Getting the power to the ground is a 10-bolt rear end running 3.36 gears. While we mentioned earlier how good the period-correct rally wheel package looks, they were hiding a secret. This Nova is riding on Cooper Cobra GT tires for exceptional modern grip in all conditions. This is a Nova that has such a beast under the hood that it over-delivers on its pavement-eating appearance. Best of all, you can pick up the new king of the streets for less than $27K. It already has all the necessary equipment on it to drive to the dragstrip, teach a few tire-smoking lessons, and then go out for a Saturday night cruise. This Nova is a serious contender from every angle. Up front is the SS badge on the intimidating blacked-out grille, and the exterior mounted gauges are hard to miss. Its profile has a menacingly aggressive leaning forward stance. In the rear, everyone knows an electric cutoff switch is something for more than just showing off, and you also can get a peek at some of the fuel cell hardware under the rear bumper. It's all wrapped in a don't-mess-with-me red paint job, and set apart with an SS stripe package. Backing up this intimidating appearance is the knowledge that the Nova is one of the best cars for the street or dragstrip because they are the perfect combination of a compact/lightweight coupe, that was built with the same stout parts as Chevy's other larger muscle cars. The interior is civilized enough for street use, but the hardware is made for the track, which is the essence of pro-street. The driver has a custom Auto Meter gauge setup, with eight readouts total on the dash, and mounted on the hood. The big tachometer is essential because the real fun of this toy comes from running through the four-speed line-lock Hurst shifter. If you were still doubting how serious this car is about getting on the track, just look at the full toggle switch panel for all major components. Of course, the other side of pro-street is that this car has to be usable beyond the racetrack. This Nova still has its full interior, and the black vinyl is in good enough condition that it will put some show cars to shame. The front and rear benches mean there is room for six, but you might want to first make sure your passengers are not timid about the cool custom "black widow" graphic on the dash. There is even an AM/FM/cassette stereo for those few times you want to listen to something other than the awesome roar of the motor. When you pop the hood you can tell this is no ordinary 350 cubic-inch small block V8. This motor was specially built to run. Among its goodies is a dual-feed carburetor, performance intake, aluminum radiator, and performance air cleaner (you can check the restoration receipts and maintenance records for all the component details). But not all the performance parts are in the front. In the trunk is the racing fuel cell as well as the dual battery box. Not only are these often requirements for some of the more professional racing events, but also this setup helps put weight over the driving wheels. In fact the rear wheels are so important that the leaf spring suspension has been swapped for a coil-over setup. This supports the 10-bolt Positraction rear end running 3.42 gears. The final piece keeping this car stuck to the ground is a pair of Goodyear Eagle GTII tires. For those times when you're not on the track, this Nova has the convenience of power steering and power brakes with discs up front. Beautifully built, and insanely fast, this cool Nova nails pro-street in all the ways that matter. Originally sold out of Galt, California from Bob McGeary Chevrolet, this Nova was restored as an amazing Yenko Super Car. As a tribute to the Duke, this 1969 Nova Coupe now has striking qualities outside, inside, and under the hood. All of which will draw people in to take a closer look. Why spend $300k+ on a true Yenko (like at the Mecum auction this year for $380k Auction Car ) when you can get the same power, style, and looks for much less? Whether people see it first, or hear it, this amazing build turns heads! As with all Yenko's this car's exterior has the signature "Yenko SC" stripes going down the side, along with the Yenko insignia on each front quarter panel. It has the correct Yenko design up top with two stripes extending to the base of the hood. All exterior lights are fully functional, there is no cosmetic damage or rust noted, and has near-perfect paint. This car is clean as a whistle and ready to be driven, just like it rolled off the showroom floor. This Nova had a matching blue interior when it first rolled off the lot. Now it is equipped with much better quality, and more stylish black vinyl interior with easy-to-clean correct black rubber floors to match. The headrests also have the "sYc" Yenko emblem to add a nice touch. There's no need for a console when there's a comfortable, and correct, bench seat (with seatbelts), and a four-on-the-floor Muncie stick shift. The backseat is also the same black vinyl, and is also equipped with seatbelts. As for the dash it has all working gauges and an original AM radio. Who needs FM music when there's a 454 to listen to!? It is outfitted with heat and defrost, and what do you need air conditioning for when you have 55mph air, you'll have to give the window a crank for the perfect day to cruise and show off. Of course the outside re-creates a Yenko, the inside feels Yenko, but does it drive like a Yenko? Does a 454 LS7 engine with 465 horsepower answer that question? Those white stripes on the side of this Nova might set the blue paint off nicely, but that's no Starsky and Hutch stripe, this car means business. Along with the powerful engine this car contains one of the best transmissions ever manufactured, the Muncie M21 with a gear ratio of 3.73 Posi. But with all that driving power, you'll need good stopping power as well. This Nova is outfitted with bias ply tires, and front power disc brakes. This vehicle shows only 30k total miles, and only 200 miles on it since it was rebuilt. Through and through this is a perfect tribute, and it would be a great fit for anyone who wants some real American muscle. Cars done as nicely as this, with great colors, great history, and a really great drive train don't last in our showroom. Don't miss out on something that is as awesome as an original, but at a quarter of the price! The great part of this fierceness is that it comes at a value price. Third-generation Novas are great cars. The fastback styling of the coupe combined with the reputation for being real "sleeper" performance machines make these a highly desired classic. Now take it up a notch with the cool blacked-out grille and rear panel of the SS packaging, and you have a real winner. It really stands out against great bright orange paintwork. But the real cherry on this one is the vinyl black Yenko stripe packaging that pays tribute to the best performance dealer Chevrolet ever had. Just in case the performance appearance wasn't already clear on this Nova, it rests on Cragar-style five-spoke 15-inch wheels. This car wants to be intimidating at every stoplight, and the interior doesn't let this image down. The black vinyl on the seats dash and door panels holds its menacing appearance. Still, being the bad boy doesn't mean having to give up creature comforts. The bucket seats are a modern take on a vintage look. The high-back units provide a better contour fit than factory originals, plus they leave room in between the two for a complete custom center console - you never got the convenience of a real cup holder in 1970! This also provides an armrest, housing for the added oil & temperature gauges, and framing for the Hurst gearshift (badging above the glovebox lets everyone else know this is an upgrade, too.) The stereo has been upgraded to a modern AM/FM/CD, and to help with the rear speakers, a custom parcel shelf was created. The thin wood-rimmed wheel provides a nice added style touch and a nice place to command the power steering. Beneath the metal is what made Yenko cars special, and this tribute coupe has an interesting take on this idea. The 1969 Yenko Novas were big block 427 cubic-inch V8s, but by 1970 Yenko went for a more environmentally friendly 350 V8. This tribute car splits the difference a bit by utilizing a nice stout 396 cubic inches. Keeping the big block V8 also means an unmistakable tone from the dual exhaust that does a great job of announcing the power under the hood. In fact, everyone at the local car shows will hear you and want a peek at the monster inside. To help this, the BBC V8 has been treated to some attractive chrome on the air cleaner and valve covers. Power is sent to a four-speed manual transmission and then to a strong 12-bolt rear end. There is a lot of rubber to meet the road with 215/60R15 performance tires. When it comes time to stop this beast there are power brakes with discs up front. Having a nicely built Yenko tribute like this has the advantage of a mean appearance and the power to back it up. Best of all, it holds the looks like a priceless muscle car at a price that will make it fly out of the showroom. Linger on that thought a little longer and the sound of a small block V8 comes to mind coupled with images of an old school dash. We'll let you fill in the details from there but, if you like where we were going, have a look at this incredible Chevy Nova. Backing a 427 cubic inch LS2 with a race-prepped Tremec, track-ready mechanicals and show-stopping aesthetics, this magazine-featured coupe has been drawing stares ever since it rolled in to our showroom. And if you're ready to feel the summer breeze behind the wheel of a storied and unique custom, it's a chance to turn your dreams into reality! BODYWORK/TRIM Right at home cruising the strip, right at home showing beside exotics and right at home schooling Miatas on the autocross course, this Nova is just too much! No, seriously, that's the car's name: "II Much". Built, rebuilt and built again by a dedicated gearhead who wanted a killer pro-tourer, II Much features a detailed, custom appearance that's based in vivid PPG blue, highlighted by Metallic Black war paint and trimmed in custom, anodized accents. Take one look down the sides of the car's slick body and it becomes very obvious that the folks at Canton, Georgia's Road Killer Customs took great care to ensure all gaps are at better-than-factory standards. Step closer to the car's wet looking finish and check out straight and ripple-free panels that aren't plagued by any major imperfections. Grab the car's well-adjusted doors and feel how smoothly they close to provide excellent fit, which is set off by a glossy clearcoat shine. It all adds up to one world-class, mostly garage-built custom that transforms traditional muscle car style into multi-dimensional swagger! The subdued and classy lines of the prototypical Nova are early '60s conservative. And because they're so universal in appeal, they've continued to gain significant popularity. At the front of this hardtop, modern halogen headlamps hang a mesh-trimmed, crossbar grille behind a small bowtie, a mesh-trimmed, fiberglass bumper and a custom spoiler. A fiberglass cowl induction hood leads the eye to smoked glass that's framed by Metallic Black trim, shaved drip rails, and a shaved and filled cowl. At the sides of that glass, a clean, modernist profile centers traditional GM door handles behind color-keyed bowtie mirrors. And an adjustable carbon fiber spoiler reflects vertical tail lamps and a second fiberglass bumper. ENGINE This sweet looking Chevy is powered by a 427 cubic inch LS2 that, thanks to Wegner Automotive Research of Markesan, Wisconsin, creates roughly 620 pavement-scorching horsepower! Built to tear up the track and wow show goers alike, that sleeved and stroked mill combines a Rapid Motorsports block with a proven Wegner valvetrain and custom-wired FAST XFI electronics to transform stout compression into razor-sharp throttle response. Air is supplied by a black-cased reusable filter element, which rides on a proven Holley throttle body. That oxygen makes its way from a single-plane GM Performance Parts intake to CNC-ported and polished LS6 cylinder heads, which are juiced by 42 lb. Holley injectors. Sparks are sequenced through factory-spec ignition and familiar GM Performance Parts plug wires. When fire hits the cylinders, a Lunati Voodoo cam combines with Lunati forged pistons, Lunati Pro Mod rods and a Lunati 4-inch crank to make everything spin. The remnants of that fire swirl through custom-fabricated Stainless Works headers. Cooling comes courtesy of a giant Ron Davis radiator, which is fitted with two equally large puller fans. And, at the front of the technical-looking block, a Vintage Air FrontRunner accessory drive spins standard ancillaries. The custom engine compartment, which includes a relocated firewall and fabricated inner fenders, is every bit as extravagant and detailed as the car's stunning exterior. And niceties such as Earl's hoses, ARP hardware and a custom, reverse-hinge hood add the kind of fully sorted details that push enthusiasts right over the edge! DRIVETRAIN Take a long look under this lightweight X-Body and you'll find a whole roster of small modifications that add up to impressive appearance points and big performance gains. The buff LS2 leads a race-prepped Tremec TKO600 5-speed, which utilizes a tough RPS clutch and Howe throwout bearing to twist a custom Mark Williams driveshaft. On the other side of that shaft, a narrowed and Morrison-housed Moser spins a proven Detroit Locker differential around civil, 3.25 gears and rugged, 35-spline axles. Spent gases are managed by 3-inch, Mandrel-bent pipes, which breath through a MagnaFlow X-pipe, hearty MagnaFlow mufflers and custom, angled tips. And power pounds the pavement through 3-piece Kinesis K18s, which spin 265/35ZR18 Pirelli P Zero Corsas in front of 315/30ZR18 Pirelli P Zero Corsas. CHASSIS/SUSPENSION Holding that stellar drivetrain off the ground is a high quality Art Morrison chassis, which is adhered beneath custom floors, custom wheel tubs and a custom transmission tunnel that were fabricated from various gauges of 1018 cold rolled steel. That chassis glides on a Katz Tsubai-designed suspension that, thanks to a custom short-long arm front-half and custom 3-link back-half, pulls over 1 g on the track. That scratch-built front-half features: C4 hubs, billet Brian Schein spindles, 4130 tubular lower control arms, adjustable QA1 coil-overs, Lensing springs, needle-bearing upper control arms, Howe Racing ball joints, a Stock Car Products modular sway bar, a custom-fabricated crossmember and custom-fabricated aluminum uprights and coil-over mounts. The car's scratch-built back-half features: two more adjustable QA1 coil-overs, two more Lensing springs, adjustable control arms, an adjustable panhard bar and a thick Morrison sway bar. That suspension points through a custom Woodward steering rack, which mixes Lefthander Chassis tie rods and custom-machined 4340 steel steering arms with proven Borgeson joints. Stops come quickly thanks to Wilwood 6 and 4-piston calipers, which use two .75 Wilwood master cylinders to squeeze two 14-inch drilled and slotted rotors up front and two 12-inch drilled and slotted rotors out back. Like any carefully assembled classic, the bottom of this Nova is as well-finished as its top, with painted floors hovering over such niceties as stainless fluid lines, a Corvette oil pan, a 16-gallon, custom-baffled fuel cell and fresh Aeromotive pressure components. INTERIOR Inside this Chevy, classic style is augmented with seamlessly integrated customization. Cloth Sparco Monza seats, which hang snazzy "II Much" brandings over cam-released SCHROTH 4-point belts, are track day comfortable. At the base of those seats, fade-free carpet rides between a custom, Vintage Air-equipped console, custom foot pedals, a billet Tremec shifter and thick Dynamat insulation. A color-keyed dash features an array of Auto Meter Pro Comp Ultra Lite gauges, while custom door skins are designed to flow with the car's 12-point roll cage. Connecting the driver to the road is a Sparco 3-spoke steering wheel spinning around a pull-off hub and tilting Ididit column. At the rear is a simple trunk that hides a centered gel cell battery behind a good amount of cargo space. And an integrated, MP3-compatible sound system keeps the tunes bumping with the help of a large amp, a large subwoofer and five crisp speakers. This ultra-clean SS is the real deal and makes a compelling point that the Novas deserve to be up there with Camaros in terms of performance, looks, and desirability. Marina Blue looks good on everything, and while it isn't this particular Nova's original color (which was code 49 Antique Green), you can't argue with the results. Shockingly, this car was repainted back in the 90s and still looks fantastic today, a testament to both the quality of the work and the care it has received since it was finished. The car has obviously led a good life and has lived indoors, which pays big dividends on the little stuff that's almost impossible to restore back into a car: the doors fit well, the trunk closes without a big slam, and all the body lines are quite crisply rendered. The SS models got the same blacked-out grille as their siblings, along with a few well-placed 'SS' badges, and we've always liked how the Novas put their engine sizes up there on the front fender for everyone to see. A stock hood with chrome inserts is far cooler than any cowl induction setup might be, and the overall low-key look works very well for a sleeper like this. The Nova's back-to-basics interior plays a big part in its popularity, especially today when enthusiasts are more impressed by substance than style. Of course, that isn't to say that the interior isn't nicely done, with replacement seat covers, carpets, and door panels, all of which were done at the same time as the paint. Nice, right? The factory speedometer shows crisp markings and a bright orange pointer, but since even the SS didn't have a full gauge package, a set of white-faced auxiliary gauges has been installed under the dash. An AM/FM/cassette stereo was added at some point along the line and there's a recent set of monogrammed floor mats to tie it all together. In back, the good-sized trunk was a big plus on the smaller Nova, and it includes a color-matched spare, a correct mat, and more clean sheetmetal. That is, indeed, the car's original, numbers-matching 350 cubic inch V8, one of only a handful of numbers-matching Novas we've ever seen. It's been rebuilt and fully dressed with lots of chrome dress-up, but why wouldn't you want to show off a bit when your engine bay looks this good? But beyond the flash, it's a mostly stock rebuild that includes only the usual bolt-ons: intake manifold, carburetor, and long-tube headers that add a noticeable punch of performance. The Chevy Orange paint on the block gives it the authentic look, and there are a lot of new components under the hood, suggesting a sizable investment in getting it right. The TH350 3-speed automatic transmission and 10-bolt rear end are also original to the car, and it cackles through a recent Flowmaster dual exhaust system that sounds wicked. The stance is perfect, accentuated by a set of staggered Rally wheels and 205/70/14 front and 245/60/15 rear BFG radials. Documented with a build sheet, window sticker, and Protect-O-Plate, this is a pedigreed Nova that's also a joy to drive. With high-quality paint, that thumping big block, and a 100% performance look, this is the car that everyone worries about at the Wednesday night test-and-tune, because it's the benchmark against which all others will be measured. It's nasty! Taking weight out is like putting horsepower in, but what if you did both? This Nova is the result. It's also rather attractive, with expensive Intense Blue Pearl paint that's like regular old Marina Blue on steroids, which seems fitting, actually. A six-inch cowl induction hood eliminates any guesswork about this car's intentions, but they did restrain themselves and didn't add stripes or wings or any of that nonsense. Instead, they just got the basics right, with good bodywork and a great shine that may momentarily distract opponents from the exhaust note when you pull up. Maybe. Nice chrome and trim glitters against the bright blue paint and SS badges have been fitted wherever they were appropriate. And with a car like this, I guess there's not much point in trying to keep a low profile, so proper '396' emblems were bolted to the front fenders. The Nova wasn't famous for its luxurious interior, but the deeply bolstered racing seats now fitted make an argument that it needed an upgrade. They're comfortable but not at all constricting, and this car still carries a full back seat so it's practical as well. The factory gauges were dumped in favor of a set of Auto Meter dials, along with a Monster tach up high where you can see it in the heat of battle. I also like that they put the speedometer up there, which makes sense if you think about it. Nice carpets, reproduction door panels, and what appears to be a nicely preserved back seat make up a very user-friendly interior. There is no radio, no heater, no defroster, but you probably won't miss them anyway. New rubber seals throughout make it feel tight and not at all like most race cars you've driven, and even the trunk remains at least a little usable despite the fuel cell and Optima battery stashed back there. The big 396-inch V8 received a .030 overbore when it was rebuilt, and it isn't your garden-variety rat motor. Forged TRW 11:1 slugs were dropped into those oversized cylinders and tied to a forged Eagle crank and topped with ported GM heads. A solid lifter cam gives it that old-school race sound but roller rockers add a little efficiency. A big Holley 950 Pro-Series carburetor and matching Strip Dominator intake give it instantaneous throttle response and with the sand-cast valve covers and race-grade braided stainless hose, the sucker certainly looks the part of a full-race piece. The TH400 3-speed automatic transmission is equipped with a B&M Holeshot 3000 RPM stall torque converter and the 12-bolt rear end is filled with Moser axles and 4.11 gears on a Posi. Weld Draglite wheels complete the street/strip look and carry skinny 165/80/15 front and 275/60/15 rear tires that fit inside the original fenders. Big and nasty, this Nova proves the old adage that too much is just enough. This isn't a car for beginners, but if you crave speed, not many cars deliver like this one. A combination of good looks, rumbling V8s, and a spacious, useful interior that works well is what makes this cars so great. This one is a special one though. Only 6,822 "Sky Roof" Novas were built for the 1972 model year, very few remain, and this is one of them. And it is believed to have only 49,917 original miles! The square-jawed Nova sure looks good. With chiseled contours that make it look like it was carved from a block of granite, this little Nova obviously doesn't put up with pretenders on the street. Its glossy black paint gives it a sinister demeanor, daring others to give it a run, but the smart ones know that light weight and a V8 mean that it'll be a handful no matter what they're driving. This two-door still looks great which is a tribute to the workmanship and care it has received since. Straight sheetmetal and great gaps mean that they took their time, and the bright, shiny paint has been properly maintained to retain its gloss, especially important on black cars. But the highlight of this car is the vinyl roof that has the "Sky Roof" option, allowing a large portion of the vinyl to fold back on sliding rails to expose a large viewing area of a site of your choice once you peel off Main Street. There is enough chrome in place to make it sparkle, including the hood inserts that just look cool, plus a blacked-out SS grille and tail panel for a bit of attitude. Rally wheels measuring 14'' in diameter add a bit more flex to that muscular stance. The black vinyl and cloth interior presents as new and everything remains stock, even the original bench still resides up front. A matching bench in the rear is covered in taut materials and the carpets, door panels, and dash pad all remain in good condition with a contrasting wood appliqu on the doors. The factory gauges remain, as well as an AM radio and controls for the factory air conditioning. The steering wheel is an SS unit and it fits right in to the nostalgic interior. Of course overhead is the best part where the roof slides back. It's a unique package that will surely please on comfortable sunny days and clear, summer nights. V8 power in a lightweight package makes for impressive performance, and the 350 cubic inch Chevy small block delivers. Believed to be original to the car, the four-barrel equipped small block exhales through aftermarket headers and a 2.5'' dual exhaust for a great soundtrack, this Nova certainly walks and talks like a true muscle car. It has all the virtues you'd expect of Chevy's famous small block and none of the vices. A 3-speed automatic translates the power to a 10-bolt rear end for quick launches off the line. Controlling that power is 225/70/14 BF Goodrich Radial T/As at all fours, with power steering and power brakes augmenting the ride. Fast, inexpensive fun was always the Nova's promise, and this one still delivers. With a rare "Sky Roof" option, this particular one delivers just a bit more fun than your average hard top. Lock in your chance to own a car that provides a lot of bang for the buck.
