The original owners manual, maintenance booklet with the two owners pages filled out with maintenance dealer stamps, and Dom key card included as well. This car also has some very desirable options which includes- S steel spoiler, S gauges, S suspension, and very rare original ALUMINUM deck lid. The car currently has restored desirable deep 6 Fuchs. The body of this car is very solid. The front trunk is immaculate with all original Aubergine paint. The original front pan has never been replaced and the original undercoating is still present. All spot welds and inner fenders are in excellent condition. The engine bay shows the original paint as well. Additionally the doors are showing the original aubergine paint which the red paint flakes off. Not only did they produce more usable low-end power, they were proven to be far more reliable and easy to maintain. However, this unique model was strictly a U.S. model, and as a result only 1,944 coupes were ever built. This Porsche was built in March of 1973. It was purchased new at a local Southern California Porsche dealer on September 24th, 1973. It was ordered with the following options from the factory: US Equipment Forged Alloy Wheels (Fuchs) Stabilizer Bars – Front and Rear Manual Antenna (Left w/Front) Loudspeaker & Noise Suppression Comfort Equipment Tinted Glass All Around Dunlop tires The original owner kept the car for a little over 4-years before selling it to the 2nd local owner on January 18th, 1978. This owner lived in Orange County and was a Porsche enthusiast. During his ownership, he performed a full engine rebuild (1988/60k-miles ago). The rebuild was done by a respected Southern California Porsche specialist and included the following: New bearings Chain rails, timing chains, and chain tensioners New pistons and cylinders from Porsche New valves and guides (grind valve seats) New clutch kit, throw out bearing and resurface flywheel Oil return tubes All new fuel and oil lines Magnaflux and polish crankshaft Rebuild connecting rods and balance Align and bore case with case inserts Install timesert and oil cooler New case studs Resurface heads New fuel pump In total, $12,500 was invested on this engine build, which is over $25,000 in today’s dollars. This owner kept the car for nearly 30-years. Shortly after selling his it in 2006, it went through a cosmetic refurbishment, which included: New fuel tank Replace front suspension pan New rubber seals Full glass-out repaint Restore front seats Restore dashboard The current owner purchased this 911 on January 23rd, 2007 with around 174,000 miles. For the past 10-years/6k-miles, this owner has primarily used the car as a weekend cruiser. Highlights of recent/significant services while in his care include: Shifter bushing and new shift kit Replace fuse boxes Steel brake lines and restore brake calipers Replace front wheel bearings and seals Install turbo tie rod kit New motor mounts Replace CV boots New stainless steel muffler Replace oil lines 3-point retractable belts for rear seats H4 European headlights Replaced front bumper deco (remove DOT rubber bumper horns) Over the last 9-years/7k-miles, well over $25,000 was invested in this Porsche to make it a well-sorted driver. Upon the owner bringing us the car to sell on consignment, we had our local Porsche expert go through the car to give us a current condition update. He said, overall, the car is in very good condition and generally well cared for. The engine is very healthy with excellent leakdown (% off of 100%)/compression results: (1) 155/1% (2) 145/1% (3) 145/1% (4) 150/1% (5) 150/2% (6) 145/6% The condition of this car is a very nice survivor-driver. It is clear that it has always been a well cared for Southern California car. The bottom is very dry with no signs of rust. The floors are original in their factory finish. The engine is pretty dry with just some slight oil weeping from the left lower valve cover. The front suspension pan has been replaced as well as the front left fender (minor incident by 2nd owner when parking). There are no signs of damage or anything else in the trunk area (see pics). It was strictly superficial. The paint looks very nice and shines up well. It was a quality glass-out repaint about 10-years ago in the correct factory original color. It’s been about 7k-miles since the repaint and there are minimal signs of use. The chrome trim is all-original and in good shape with minor scratches from age. The Fuchs are in very good condition. They are wearing older Michelin tires with more than 75% life remaining. There are no cracks. The brake pads have over half-life remaining, but the rotors (although no lips) are older and probably should be replaced soon. The interior is very good condition. The seats have no tears, rips, or cracks. The dash is also free of cracks or warping (hairline crack on speaker grill). The headliner has a small tear by the driver side rear (see pic). The original door panels/pockets are in nice condition with just light signs of wear. The carpet is original and in generally good condition for the age with some normal expected wear on the driver side (see pic). The door thresholds have been fitted with engine turned metal pieces commonly installed by the dealer when new. This is very typical of Southern California delivered Porsches during the early 1970’s. All the glass is original and in very good condition (including the windscreen). The gauges work properly except for the clock. The original Blaupunkt radio works as well. This 911 drives really nice. It fires up easily, even after sitting. We metered the CIS system and it is running fine but a hair on the rich side. The engine bay sound pad has been silicone to prevent from falling and should be replaced soon (see pic). The airbox had been damaged back in the 80’s (prior to the engine rebuild). It was repaired with silicon and fitted with a pop-off valve, which was a commonly required fix. The power feels strong and is evident by the excellent leakdown results. The steering response is spot on and tracks nicely. The brakes feel good with excellent pedal pressure. The 915 gearbox shifts smoothly with no synchro issues. Overall, this is a Porsche that would be excellent for long distance vintage touring events or even your local shows. California registration is current and paid through June of 2017. This Porsche includes the owner’s manual red cover (no owner’s manual), tool kit, spare Fuch, original blue CA license plates, battery tender (installed), an extra key, Porsche COA, and most records going back to the 1980’s including the engine build. 1973 Porsche 911T Early 911s embody a combination that is rare among collector cars today. They have unparalleled drivability and usability, especially when compared with other cars of the same vintage, but are also wholly evocative of a different era. There is a certain wholeness, cohesiveness, agility, and communicativeness that is only evident when they are driven, and it is no surprise that they have a fanatical following. For many years, however, they were just used cars, which makes finding genuinely solid examples which have been continuously cared throughout the car's life difficult today. All early 911s have appreciated tremendously in recent years and the late cars (1972 and 1973), are the ultimate development of the 'long hood' 911. This particular car is desirably equipped with a factory 3.0L and has had ordered in a very particular Color: Gold. Cosmetically, the car is an attractive solid level example. The car has been repainted I white, paint is in no very good condition, with some touched in chips here and there, suggesting. There are some light scratches all over but never in a major accident. The panels are straight, solid, and fit well, with no evidence of rust. The floors are is very good throughout, with some light surface scratches but no major pitting or other issues. The glass and lights are very good. The seats are gone, was lost when previous owner started the restoration process, so have that in mind, no seats ok ? dash is honest in appearance and in ok condition, the instruments are nice, with some patina consistent with an unrestored car that spent most of its life inside in a mild climate, the steering wheel itself is in nice original condition. The engine compartment unrestored and is honest and stock in appearance with the overall feel is of a wholesome unmolested car. There are signs of recent maintenance including new spark plug wires and distributor cap. The inner fenders and battery boxes are solid and pleasingly original in appearance. The undercarriage is similarly nice with original floors. Overall, the structure is wonderfully solid and original. This is an excellent opportunity to acquire a structurally wonderful factory Gold 911T . Having spent most of its life in California, the car has an excellent structure and has a nice honest presentation of a car that can be restored. Or made a "Singer" Style .Starting with a solid base. It runs and drives well but could use some work in order to have it road worthy... This great 911 will appeal to the buyer who prefers honesty over outright gloss.

The best way to describe "Albert" is that this 1970 911T is simply one of the most honest early 911's I've seen in some time. The cars history is documented not only with paper documentation and receipts (books, tools, complete service records, COA) it has always been owned by someone here in Spokane AND all of Albert's owners not only know one another, they are best of friends and every one of them a PCA member..... It just starts getting interesting there. I'm the dealer who has Albert on consignment , but, I also know the car. You see in 1971 my father ran the Porsche dealership here in Spokane. I was his lot boy at the time, I was 13. I washed and drove this very car 46 years ago and now get to help sell it, very cool. ...there is more to the story and I'd be happy to share it with you, should you have more interest. Let's just say that there is NOTHING about this car that isn't known or documented; nothing. Albert was delivered new in July of 1970 in Boise, Idaho (the Porsche dealership did not open its doors here in Spokane until 1971) to a Gonzaga University professor. The car was serviced here at Valley Porsche/Audi as service receipts verify until 1982 when the dealer closed its doors. The car was later sold it on to one of Spokane's longest and most loyal Porsche owners. The car was going to be made into a race car but given the cars rare color, a different car was sourced for that mission, thank god ! Albert has been bought and sold between 5 Porschephyiles here in Spokane and has actually been in one of their hands three times ! Every receipt for the car has been kept (see photo) The car received a respray to its correct color in 1983. The paint work was done properly with all glass removed. It still looks great ! Cosmetics; As stated, the car received a proper respray in '83. The paint shines wonderfully. Yes, there are a few touch ups and expected as the car has always been properly used and driven. Chrome is excellent as is the glass. The original chrome wheels are date code correct and in excellent condition as well. The car can and certainly should be proudly driven and shown as is. I wouldn't touch a thing! The interior is in lovely original condition. The drivers seat could use new stuffing but, the seat covers are in very nice condition, again, honest and original. I've been told, by those who really want to pick stuff apart, that the dash pad has been replaced. If so, there is no receipt and the only thing I cannot confirm, yet :) Headliner and carpeting are simply superb. Both door cards are in very nice condition though the door pockets could use a little love, they aren't terrible. Electrics: EVERYTHING on the car functions. All lights, gauges, dash lights, radio (Original radio was sent out and upgraded with modern electonics) wipers, etc. The car is still equipped with two batteries. Mechanicals; The engine was rebuilt at about the 98,000 mile mark. The engine runs strong. No smoke on start cold or warm. No smoke on accel/deccel cold or warm. Throttle response is excellent. The motor is a bit cold blooded which I'll attribute to the wonderful gasoline's that we are forced to use. Once up to temp the car runs truly great. The transmission was just recently overhauled and shifts perfectly. The engine does not drip oil. Front and rear mains are damp but, not leaking. Chassis; Albert has NO RUST and never has had any. All pans are original to the car. Rockers and jack mounts are perfect. The car has never been damaged. Doors still ping ! Drive it? Bad idea....... The car drives perfectly. Steering is spot on with no play and the car tracks perfectly. Brake pedal feel and modulation is excellent. Clutch take up is slip and chatter free. I love driving this car, it drives like they are supposed to, not like a car that has been disassembled and rebuilt; this car is rock solid. Folks, ... This isn't a car to flip, it's one to hold on to. 3-4 years from now.... I think it'll double, conservatively. Pretty safe bet I think. I've been around these cars for some time; longer than many :) I am not the walking, talking encyclopedia that some are but.....this is one very, very honest 911 and in this color...... very rare. I promise you this, had I the money, the car simply would not be for sale! Please note: I've been told (yup, by the same walking talking encyclopedia guys) that the photos are too blue....glad you have time for that. The car was shot in the late afternoon, in the shade (look at the color of the trees) Most important however, is that the color is pretty much spot on in most of the photos.....Art Wolff I ain't :)

1970 Porsche 911T Targa SportomaticVin # 9110110663 / Engine # 61081222 / C Program Build FLICKR photo album over 80 phtotos: www.flickr.com/photos/55027262@N06/albums/72157657654737549Please see our Youtube video on the car here; youtube.com/watch?v=TZzKRTJSz28A few words on the Sportomatic transmission which seems to have put a few people off this car: While sounding American, and was indeed a response to the US Market, the Porsche Sportomatic gearbox is a proper piece of kit that was proven in motorsports before being introduced. In fact, after winning the 82 hour 1967 “Marathon de la Route” – an 82 hour race on the North and South loops of the Nurburgring – Vic Elford proclaimed that it should be the standard gearbox for the 911, and ordered his next 911 with one. There is a wonderful write up on this ultra-long endurance race in the July, 2015 edition of GTPorsche, that is worth reading. Porsche outfitted its first ever all-out race car, the 2.0L 911R, with the Sportomatic gearbox, to compete in this grueling race, to prove the technology before offering it to the public. The 911R Sportomatic won the race, completing 350 laps (9,916km) of the combined northern and southern loops, at an average speed of 73mph including all stops. The second place car was 34 laps behind (almost 1,000km!). Anyway if Porsche saw fit to put the Sportomatic in the 911R and give it to Vic Elford, Jochen Neerpasch and Hans Herrmannn to pound around the Nurburgring for 82 hours, winning the race by 34 very long laps, it should be OK for you too!-Lawrence On offer is a spectacular example of an early long hood, chrome-bumper 911 in the vibrant 70’s hue, Signal Orange. This car is remarkable for a couple of reasons; one is that it is a rare variant (Targa/Sportomatic) with approximately 600 produced, and far fewer remaining in their original configuration; the second reason is that the car has benefited from 4 very careful and fastidious owners from new, who have left an extremely well-documented paper trail. Particularly the 2nd owner who had the car from 1973 to 1997 and drove it for 84,000miles (9,500miles to 93,500 miles) and who restored the car, and who kept excellent notes - It was even worth the trouble for me to key in some of his letters as part of this auction description, as they describe a technically adept, and fastidious owner who had a deep appreciation and fond memories of a car he obviously cherished. Sometimes the maintenance file on a car tells a great story, and the contents of this 3” thick binder doesn’t disappoint. Post 1997, the car was sold to a Calgary Accountant (in fact my Accountant!) who had the car for 5 years and then sold the car to a friend of his, who is the co-owner of a highly acclaimed Art Gallery in Calgary. I have known both guys for 25 years. A new chapter of the car’s life then started, and we have a complete record of all the work done to the car since – over $32,000 in receipts transcribed below– that was spent at Alpine Automotive and Riegal Tuning in Calgary. Both companies are still in business, located a few blocks from Porsche Centre Calgary, and both of whom I use for my own classics. Marc Boulanger from Alpine is a Master Porsche Mechanic, and has done the work on the car since 2011 (Marc has also worked on our Metallic Green 1973 911S Coupe for the last 30 years). Major items include new SSI heat exchangers, rebuild of the Sportomatic gearbox and torque converter, clutch, carb rebuild, conversion to electronic ignition, Vredestein tires, new brakes, rear torsion bars etc. etc. Condition of the vehicle is exceptional, and it gets better the closer you look at it (it is not always this way). It is not easy to take one of these cars apart, and put it back together and have it look new and correct, but this is such a car. It has been driven – there is evidence of 40,000 miles of careful use since the restoration: There are some very small stone chips, the windscreen has some fine pitting, and there are some fine swirls in the paint, the car leaves a small oil spot on our floor after being left for a couple of days, and that is about it. I am not prone to ‘Puffery’ when it comes to describing cars (have a look at our Ferrari 348 auction) but given the mileage, the car can not be reasonably faulted, even by Porsche fanatics. Extra keys, the owners manual, a set of shop manuals, and a large box of spare and original parts come with the car, including the original Becker Mexico Radio with NOS face plate. Here is a link to the R&T Magazine road test of the 1970 Porsche 911, with the witty by-line: "Performance in the order of an American Supercar, without the stigma of low cost", in this case the 'S' was tested but it describes the current line up, and ends with this description of the 911T: "The 911S, exciting though it is, is not the right car for use in America - unless one lives in a state without open-road speed limits. The S just frustrates the poor driver most of the time in everyday driving, crying to be run up to its reline through the gears (do that in 2nd gear and you're at the speed limit in California) or cruised at 130-plus mph, and gives away a lot in low-speed performance to get its brilliant upper range, not to mention the extra cost. Since the 911T is also a bit stronger this year, and just as tractable as before, we recommend it as the best Porsche for all-around use- and a great car it is."vintageandsportscar.com/rvsc/DIR3/DIR4/PORSCHE/911S_2.2L_RT_03-1970.htmlHere is the contents of a letter sent to the 4th owner of the car, by the 2nd, dated February 25, 2010, and giving his account of his time with the car. There are service invoices to collaborate this information, neatly filed chronologically.“These are the reminisces about the Orange 1970 Porsche 911T Targa, with a 2.2L engine rated at 125hp, and the automatically operated clutch, Sportomatic.I purchased the car from Southgate Volkswagen Ltd in Edmonton in 1972 for $7,500. It was just over one year since it had been sold new by Southgate, a Porsche dealer at that time, with the mileage at around 9,800 miles. The reason the original owner traded in the Porsche for an Audi 100 was, that his wife had triplets and the 911 was just not a very practical vehicle for himself, his wife and three babies. I believe the new price of the car had been around $9,500.At the time of purchase the car had sealed beam headlights with the quite ugly chrome enclosures and it had fog lights which projected from the lower part of the bumper skirt. The fog lights stayed on the car less than one year. I removed them when I tired of buying $75 Hella glass lenses, which seemed to break almost as soon as they were installed. Whomever installed the Hella fog lights, probably someone at Southgate, had left the metal cover plates for the fog light holes in the car, so it was a simple matter to put them back to cover the holes in the bumper skirt. The sealed beams I replaced with the proper Porsche Bosch H4 headlights in the second year of ownership. The change in looks was dramatic plus the fact that the H4 headlights provide about four times better visibility at night. The appearance of the car today, except for the headlights, fog lights and the now non-existent front license plate, is identical to that when the car was new, including the lovely orange colour. From 1972 until 1979, the Porsche was my primary business vehicle and I used it in summer and winter, travelling all over the four Western Provinces and a number of trips to Sunnyvale and Long Beach, CA.The car was extremely trouble free during these 7 years. Oil and filters were changed as needed, valve adjustments when required and the only repair, and it was not a repair to rectify a failure, was that I replaced the electro-vacuum valve in the engine compartment. This valve is the link between the micro switches in the gear shift lever and the servo operating the clutch. It had bothered me to hear a thump sometimes, indicating a not proper functioning servo engaging the clutch, when putting the car into first gear a short time after having started the engine. Replacing the electro-vacuum valve did not make any difference. Now I know that the sudden engagement of the clutch at standstill is due to a lack of vacuum in the vacuum reservoir, this is a large flat reservoir in the engine compartment underneath the ‘rear window shelf’. The muffler was also replaced sometime during this period, because the carbon steel outer shell developed a number of holes. In 1979 I purchased a Mercedes 300D and the Porsche, now with 89,000miles, was parked, first in my back yard, covered with the proverbial blue plastic tarp, then in 1980 when my rented warehouse space increased from 1,500 to 3,500 sq. ft. I moved the Porsche there. The car still ran fine, it smoked a bit when pushed hard and it looked well used. With of course plenty of rock chips on the front and rockers which had seen better days. The Aluminum body strips on the sides, front and back looked crummy due to corrosion of the aluminum, the dashboard cover had a large crack in the center and much of the body rubber was showing its age, particularly the rubber on the roll bar where the Targa Roof meets the roll bar and the windshield had a sandblasted appearance after 8 years of travel.I then started slowly buying parts for a complete restoration. The list of new parts purchased during the next four years is as about follows, from memory.Left and Right front fenders, rocker panels, front and rear shock absorbers, complete half-shafts – for some strange reason, Porsche would not sell just the CV joints, you had to buy the complete half shafts. The aluminum and plastic insert body bumper strips for the parking/turn signal /stoplight lenses. The interior dashboard cover. The chrome bumperettes in the front, the Porsche hood ornament, the driver side outside mirror, the inside mirror, the hood rubber, all the door rubber and the massive rubber which fastens to the Targa roof and down the sides where the door window meet the Targa roll bar, and the rubber which attached to the windshield top. A great amount of many small fastening things for inside the car and for the body. All these parts were purchased from Norden Volkswagen Ltd., which at the time was operating from 97 Street and 128 Avenue. The parts manager there was Ali Roshan, a fourth generation Indian from Uganda and the most incredible Porsche parts person ever to walk around in Western Canada. The total amount spent for these parts was just less than $8,500. I once looked at the parts totals and remember that they were less than the $8,700 cost of the engine rebuild, which was done in 1983.The engine rebuild was done by Norden Volkswagen Ltd. by their long time Porsche mechanic, Theo Hellmann, during the winter of 1982/1983. The car was there for about 2 months, while Theo worked on the rebuild of the engine whenever time was available to him.The major engine components replaced were: Pistons and Cylinders, valve guides and valves, camshaft chain tensioners and the chain ‘slide blocks’, all bearing shells and the hi-tech studs which hold the magnesium alloy engine components together into a functioning engine, and of course gaskets and seals. The Crankshaft bearing surfaces were all in very good condition and did not require any refinishing, the same being true for the camshaft bearing surfaces. It was amazing to see a Porsche engine in a disassembled state. The most noticeable thing of course is that there is not really an ‘engine block’ as such, just a bunch of components which, when assembled and fastened together with the hi-tech studs make an engine. One can have nothing but respect for Ferdinand Porsche and the technical geniuses working with him when they designed the flat four cylinder opposed air cooled VW engine in the 1930’s.After the engine rebuild, I drove the car sparingly, mostly because it looked a bit rough and it spent most of its time in the corner of my warehouse. In 1984, I sold the Porsche for $6,000 to Carl Wetzlaughk, owner of Modern Autobody Ltd. in Edmonton. Carl was a Porsche collector of sorts, he had already two much newer Porsches, and added this to his collection, and I think over his wife’s objections. Then in 1987, I bought the car back from Carl for $6,000, and we made an agreement that for another $6,000, Modern Autobody Ltd. would restore the body using all the parts which were with the car.During the following four years the car remained in the shed at the back of the Modern Autobody Ltd. Yard. They just did not seem to get around to start on the rebuild, even though I had paid Modern the agreed $6,000 for the rebuild. Finally, in 1992, I suggested to Carl that I help with the restoration to get things moving, to which he agreed. The Porsche was put in a corner of the shop, and there, on most Saturdays and many Sundays, I stripped the body of all the parts which were removable.Moderns’ crew then installed the new rocker panels and did minor repairs to the rest of the body and finally painted the body shell. Then they painted the fenders, the doors, the hood and the engine compartment lid, the front bumper and the rear bumpers. These items were all separate from the car. All this took place in the late summer and fall of 1992.Then, during the winter of 1992/1993, I put the whole car back together. This was a huge task and although I am a technically adept person, getting all these pieces in place and fitted properly, was some challenge. Modern Autobody had repaired many Porsches, but hey had never stripped one as completely as this one, particularly one with a Targa body. In the end it all come together and all the pieces fell into place.I had ordered a new set of four Michelin X tires which arrived after 5 weeks wait from France, and Ali Roshan managed to find two original Porsche Batteries from Germany. One Sunday in the spring of 1993, I had changed the oil and filter a couple of weeks earlier, we pushed the car outside and attempted to start it. With the help of some gas sprayed into the carburetor throats, it started quite easily but would not idle. The car was moved to Norden Volkswagen where Theo Hellmann suggested a carburetor rebuild. Theo thought that because the car has sat for so long, that probably many of the leather and rubber plungers in the carburetors had dried out that they were now non-functional. The rebuild kit was ordered and arrived a few days later, and one week later the rebuild was completed. There were over 230 individual pieces that went into the rebuild. No average mechanic’s workbench would do here. He set up a 4x8 sheet of plywood on saw horses, covered with white paper and marked into 24, 12 inch squares, 4 per throat along the top and in the lower part very defined areas for the two bodies.I remember asking him how he would get it all back together, and he said that the instructions were very good, so it should go all right. At one point, when he had the carburetors back together an in place, while changing the distributor timing, he made the engine idle at about 300rpm. This was just before he adjusted them for normal use. The carburetor rebuild cost was just under $2,200.Shortly afterwards I replaced the original radio, which was not much of a radio from any viewpoint, with a Sony cassette unit and I also found a new speaker to fit in the dash, plus I ran a bigger wire feed to the rear speaker. These efforts did not really do much to make listening the radio any better. The engine noise combined with the road and wind noise always seemed to be pre-dominant and I quit attempting to ‘get better sound’.Some months following, after getting the car on the road, the right front torsion bar broke. When Norden tried to order a new one from Porsche in Germany, they replied that these were only sold in pairs. So, both were replaced. The cost was quite reasonable, about $125 each, an installation only amounted to two hours per side. The car ‘sat better’, a little higher at the front and it seemed to ‘handle nicer’ with the front torsion bars. At this point the only items needing ‘attention’ were the exhaust headers and possibly the muffler. If I remember, the new Porsche stainless steel exhaust headers were around $3,800 and a new muffler $1,200.I sold the car to Kevin Vertefeuille and his very attractive lady friend for $15,000 in the summer of 1995. I think it was 1995, but am not sure.Following are more items of interest about his neat car.Seat Belts: Originally there were no take-up reels on the seat belts, although there were shoulder belts. The belts never seemed to be where you could grab them to put them on and sometimes they fell outside the car when getting in and out. So quite early on, I bought two Audi seat belts on reels and started looking at installing them.I found in the rear wheel cavities of the body, mounting plates with welded nuts for seat anchors, all covered up with a thick layer of undercoating. After removing the undercoating from the nuts I was able to thread in a 6mm bolt, which soon bottomed out against metal. This meant that the mounting anchor plates were not accessible from inside the car. When I removed the upholstery panel, I found no holes in the body steel. Next, I drilled 1/8” holes from the ousted nuts into the car and then from the inside I enlarged the holes to accommodate 6mm bolts. There are ’standoffs’ around the bolts, between the back plate of the reels and the body metal to position the reels away from the body metal so as not to crush the upholstery. The original belt material was then wound on the reels and the original buckles attached because the buckles on the Audi belts did not match the anchor receptacles of the seatbelt between the seats. The whole was a massive improvement over the original belt installation.Gasoline Heater: This worked quite well for the first two winters. When it worked, it worked well and gave almost instant heat. Then, when lead was removed from gasoline, the efforts to keep it functioning became very troublesome. The heater has a vane pump, with the vane sliding in and out of a rotor in an elliptical cavity. When this pump runs, the vane ‘scoops’ air in and in the final stage of teach rotation of the vane with the air slightly compressed, gasoline is sprayed into the somewhat compressed air and then forced into the combustion chamber, where it ignites, initially with the help of a glow plug, but once running, from the latent heat in the combustion chamber. When lead was present in gasoline, lead acted as an excellent lubricant for the inside cavity of the vane pump, and enabled the vane sliding in and out of the rotor as this turned in the elliptical cavity. Without lead in gasoline, the missing lubricant needed by the vane in the rotor and in the vane sliding along the cavity wall, caused the heater to not function reliably. From then on, I did not try to use the heater any longer. And, remembering having seen a number of partial burned Beetle VW’s, which had inexpensive variants of this type of heater, I felt it best to forget about it.Headlights: The superfine H4 headlights on the car do get some moisture inside them when yhou travel any distance during a heavy rain. This evaporates again, and the drying out is of course helped by getting sun heat pointing at the front of the car. This moisture gets in behind the front lens and the reflector because the seal between these parts I marginal. The lens can be separated from the reflector body, but this is a complicated operation. I have done it a few times to clean the reflector because with some moisture settling on the reflector, some dirt tends to stick to it. Ditto for the inside of the lens. If you ever do this, use a digital camera and record the disassembly, so that putting it back together will be easier to do.You will need a very long Philips screwdriver, about 16” long, to deal properly with the screw in the bottom of the headlight rim, because of the angle involved and the car body below the headlight. This screw is a long sheet metal screw which treads into a ‘spring clip’ which clips onto a metal tab in the bottom of the headlight well. Originally there was some sort of machine screw there, but the nut for the machine screw just sort of corroded away.Driving Fast: During the early years, on several occasions, I was able to find the proper piece of road and conditions to ‘wind it up’ and keep the pedal to the floor. It would take a bit of time, and if cool air was present, it would get up to 125mph, at least on the speedometer.I always considered that quite an accomplishment and a very complimentary to the Porsche company. With only 2.2 Litre displacement and an official BHP of 125 at not too high a rpm, and with only the cooling fan and alternator taking a few HP, probably close to 100HP available to propel the car.In the 1970’s I had many dealings with Alberta Highways and one engineer wo had a Mini Cooper. He had owned this since new, and had just then completed a total rebuild of the engine and drive train. One day, when we were talking about ‘small cars and going fast’ he asked what the top speed of my 911 was, and I told him that it was close to 125mph. he said he thought his Mini Cooper could do better than that. So, real early on a Sunday morning we drove out to a not yet opened section of newly built highway 16 East of Edmonton and make two runs, one East bound and one West bound. We started side by side, and with windows down, we counted down from turn and took off. I stayed ahead of him both runs, but his Mini Cooper had a little longer breath because on both runs, the Mini ‘Cooper passed my when I was showing 125mph on the speedometer. All great fun and lots of good memories.Sportomatic: A great number of Porsche friends, when they hear about a 911 with Sportomatic, make disparaging comments about ‘how can you own a Porsche without a clutch pedal’. They just do not know what they are talking about. The combination of the torque-converter and the servo-operated clutch via the micro switches in the gear shift lever, proved a very practical and extremely reliable. Control is identical as if the car had a clutch pedal. An additional benefit is that the torque-converter provides 2 to 1 multiplier factor of torque, when starting from 0, and it gives an effective torque range in each gear of twice that of a car without a torque converter. This torque-multiplier factor is probably the reason why I have never been able in any other car, including a 1984 Porsche Carrera, to beat the overall travel time of a long trip, Edmonton to Vancouver or Edmonton to Winnipeg, of which I made many in the 1970 911T Targa. Those made in the 911T Targa were always one hour less than any other car I have driven for these long 11 to 12 hour trips.Michelin X tires: They were the tires originally installed on the car. They have to be the pinnacle of automobile tires ever. They provide a super smooth ride, exceptional road-holding capability and are very long lasting. I had a set of Pirelli tiers on the car for about three years and switched back to the Michelin X’s because the Pirellis seemed to get stiffer and more hard riding every winter, without getting softer when the summer came. They are not normally sold any longer, but they can be ordered and Michelin will supply them on their terms, which mean that you pay when you order and then wait for delivery, which can be from few weeks to many months.I will stop here. Owning the car and travelling with it around Western Canada and the USA was always a true pleasure, as were the processes and work involved with the restoration.Of course, one regrets parting with such a ‘fine machine’, because that is what this car really was. At the same time, I am glad that it is now part of someone else’s enthusiastic and appreciative ownership. Best Regards, HRAug 23, 1998Another letter from owner #2 to owner #3.Dear KF, While rummaging through some boxes the other day I found some more small spare pieces for the 911T Targa, which are enclosed, plus the following comment/recommendation regarding the Sportomatic shifting maintenance. You may want to specifically give this to whoever does your maintenance on the 911T Targa, and then have him do this once as year. This is not maintenance prescribed by Porsche, but common sense maintenance. In the bottom of the shifting handle inside the car is a micro switch, which the moment you move the lover to switch gears, closes a contact which then via a so called ‘shifting valve’ (I believe that I gave you a good working spare one), automatically operates the clutch via a vacuum servo. On the transaxle – this is the transmission /rear end – on the drivers side is a switch which is screwed into the transaxle and this switch is connected to the wiring harness of the shifting valve and the wires form the gear shift lever inside the car.The wiring harness connector for the switch is of the type which just pushes on to the switch and then kind of snaps in place. Now because there is generally oil fumes floating around under the car near the transaxle which some from the transaxle vent, these oil fumes tend to get into the connector and after some time begin to act as insulators between the harness connectors and the brass pins sticking out of the switch. What your maintenance mechanic should do, and if I were you I would stand there and watch him do all this, because he will probably think that this procedure is kind of nuts, when the car ion the hoist to pull the connector off the switch. Then to clean the brass pins sticking out of the switch with gasoline and then to scrub them with a small steel brush and probably shine them up with some emery paper. Next the brass female connectors inside the rubber harness have to be similarly cleaned. Again wash the inside with gasoline and then with a small stick with emery paper to try to shine up the inside of the connectors. I did this with a very small steel brush mounted in a Dremel tool. When both the switch and the connector are super clean and the brass contact shiny, only then put the connector back on the switch. If this is all done, you will find what when you switch the car when at a standstill, into first gear, the clutch will engage very smoothly. If the subject connector is dirty with oil you will find that this first gear clutch engagement sort of goes with a thump.Lastly, I would make sure that the mechanic does not use any of the so called spray bomb ‘contact cleaner’. All that junk does is to deposit some corrosive agents onto the brass connectors so they will make contact for one week. After that the corrosion usually becomes so bad that you lose contact completely, plus most of these spray bomb ‘contact cleaners’ are murder on the rubber that the brass female connectors is moulded in.Now on to the small parts and what they are for:The aluminium plate is a spacer for the door hinges. The two screws are spares for the ones which hold the headlights chrome rings in place. The flour black plugs are spares for the plugs in the rocker panels, the body part below the doors. The single rubber dongle with flat part, is a spare drain for the front trunk. If you lift up the spare wheel, or look underneath the car where the spare is you will see two of these hanging from the bottom of the car. Their function is to drain but mostly to keep the front trunk under negative pressure, so that you do not get fumes from the front trunk inside the car. They act as a sort of venture at speed. Only Germans build things like this into a car.The other two rubber dongles are spare drains for the ‘pot’ that the headlight is mounted in, inside the front fenders. Both the trunk drains and the headlight drains should be checked that they remain open and not become plugged with dirt. The round flat soft rubber plug. This is used in both doors. They fill access holes which allow tools to reach inside the doors to get at the window winder mechanism etc. Look at the door when open where the latch is and you will see them. This one is one of two which were not installed when I installed the doors after they were painted. They belong at the front at the top of each door, that part of the door which goes under the front fender when the door is closed. If you open a door and look sort of sideways you will see the holes. There is one on each door. The problem was and is, that you need to remove the door to put them in place, and that I just never did do. I tried someone with very long and nimble fingers buy they managed to push one plug inside the door. And I think it was the passenger door, so that is why there is only one here. The fact that they are not in placed doesn’t not really do any damage, except if you were to constantly drive through massive rainstorms, you may get more water then you liked inside the doors. This does not really matter because there are holes in the bottom of the doors where this water will run out. If you were to have the installed, I would buy a couple of new ones first. FS: 1970 911T Non-Sunroof CoupeAsking Price: $65,000Location: Oceanside, CAVIN# 9110101766Photo/Video Link (multiple pages so look through all): https://www.flickr.com/photos/59129338@N02/albums/72157659310295960This car began life as a non sunroof silver metallic (8080H) 911T and was taken from there to what could be described as a gentleman's hotrod. This was the personal car of Brad Ripley (Porsche, Stoddard, 356 NLA) and was professionally built by Stoddard. At the time of the modifications to the car it was repainted to a high standard but that was many years ago. Today the paint still show well overall but has some flaws as seen in the photos. To my knowledge there is no significant rust on this car just some areas of minor surface rust as seen in the photos. The interior retains factory dashpad, door panels, carpeting, headliner, guages, seat belts, A/C etc. All electronics and lights function with the exception of the clock (works but doesnt keep accurate time), odometer (stopped recently) and the tach is starting to 'bounce'. The steering wheel, shift knob, and seats were changed in favor of more performance oriented units. The factory engine was replaced with a 1972 911T case built to 2.8L twin plug specifiction. The transmission is a type 911 dogleg 5 speed and contains 'Aiport Gears' which has a tall 1st gear and shorter tighly spaced 2nd-5th gears. Suspension and brake components were upgraded accordingly and are in keeping with the rest of the build. The car runs and drives very well with great power, excellent handling, and road manners. The car tracks straight and exhibits absolutely no creeks, rattles, or other abnormal noises. Recent maintenance (last 2 years with receipts and under 1000 miles since):- New twin plug cap/rotor- New Spark plugs upper and lower- New gas tank and fuel accumulator- New oil tank level sender and pressure sender units- New clutch disc, pressure plate, throwout/pilot bearing, clutch cable, flywheel bolts- New reversed light switch- New Falcon 912 tires all around (205/55/15, 225/50/15)- New (2) Interstate batteries- New hood and engine lid struts- New exhaust and heat exchanger gaskets- Valve adjustment and cover gaskets (still have minor leak)- Carb rebuild/jetting and manifold gaskets- Timing set- Vehicle lowered and aligned- Turbo tie rods - Rear brake calipers rebuilt, pads, and brake flush/fillCar Highlights:- Free of significant rust- Accident free- Clean and clear California title (in my name)- Factory A/C car with all parts in place (have not tested)- Factory tinted glass except replacement front windshield- All seals on car excellent- Rear SC/RS quarter panels- All steel car with factory 'S' front and rear bumpers- Factory 'S' guages- Perfect H-1 headlight with raised letter glass- Nice front and rear turn lenses- SWB Durant mirror- 2.8L twin plug engine: 'S' spec cams/heads, race crank- 906/911R/911ST Marelli 12 lead distributor- 906/911R/911ST distributor controls in dash above tach- Dual MSD ignition- Front RS trombone oil cooler with hard lines (car runs cool)- Weber 40ida made in Italy with tall secondary tubes36 vents, 155 mains, 175 air, 60 idles, F3 emulsionsteel braided fuel lines- SSI heat exchangers/Custom sport muffler- 911 5spd transmission w/ 'Airport Gears'- Hurst Airheart 4 piston calipers, drilled rotors, steel lines- Upgraded suspension, bars, turbo tie rods- Mint Fuchs 15x7 and 15x8 wheels - Very cool large diameter raid steering wheel and solid hub- Clean dash with no cracks- Nice original door panels with pockets- Matched Pair L/R Recaro Rallye II seatsThis car has lived a good life with care from 911 specialists and collector ownership. It was built before the current R Gruppe/Outlaw craze and has withstood the test of time. What is for sale here is a sports purpose interpretation of the early 911 that has fantastic looks and great performance without sacraficing comfort or practicality. It fills a void in the marketplace between uninspiring factory cars needing attention ($$$) and mega buck builds that wont see the street often if ever. This car is in great driver condition and needs nothing to be used regularly and reliably. If you want a car like this you should know that it is usually better to buy than build. That being said there is obviously still room for further customization should the next owner wish to make it their own. Please look through the many pictures and videos of this 911 as they tell the story best. If you have any questions please ask and I will answer to the best of my knowledge.Car is available worldwide but i have limited time to assist with such transactions so please be mindful of that. This car is being sold as-is with no returns or warranty implied or expressed. All inspections, questions, etc. should be carried out prior to purchase agreement or will be forfeited. Upon purchase agreement a non refundable deposit of $1000 is required to hold car until remainder of funds have cleared.

Over 100 large photos can be viewed on our flicker page, flickr.com/photos/55027262@N06/albums/72157657797278595On offer is an exceptional example of the last year of the chrome bumper, long hood 911 that has just come available, out of long term fastidious ownership. This is an F Program 911 Targa which is one of about 925 manufactured for the 1973 model year (about the same number of 2.4L 911S Targas were produced in MY 1972). The ‘S’ engine had Mechanical Fuel Injection, a 8.5:1 compression ratio, and produced 190hp. Options include the rare 110L plastic fuel tank (from the RS), Sports Seats, and Blaupunkt Frankfurt Radio. This is a numbers matching, fully documented vehicle with one quality repaint (in 1983). The car has only had two owners, the second, a Calgary eye doctor, for the last 40 years. The maintenance on this car is virtually complete, and transcribed below, dating back to 1974 in Germany, where the car was originally delivered to the first owner, Horst Dieter Muller, who listed his address as Oasis de Nazaret – a resort town in Spain. After a top-end rebuild of the engine by Ludwig Gerstenmair-a Porsche dealer in Baden-Baden, in July 1974 at 22,700km, he imported the car to Canada. The story relayed to the second owner was that Horst was not happy that his car would not reach 250km/hr on the Autobahn as promised, and he made the dealer take it back and rectify the problem-which was found to be a valvetrain issue. He sold the car in 1976 in Alberta Canada with about 25,000 km and the next 70,000km were covered in summer weather in Canada. In Calgary, the car was serviced by Select Auto, a dealer for Ferrari and Rolls Royce, and the engine and fuel injection system was rebuilt by them in August 1985 at approximately 75,000km and at a cost of $10,924. The owner of Select Motors, John Chorney’ s name is on all the invoices and telexes (!), and he is still around and currently finishing pre-war Rolls Royce Phantom 1 restoration, and is a patient of the 2nd owner. Subsequent work on the car was performed by Riegel Tuning and Alpine Autowerks. The car was treated to a quality repaint in its original colour of Metallic Green (230) by Cosmos Collision in 1983 ($2,935). Cosmos is currently the ‘Approved’ bodyshop for Porsche Centre Calgary, and both Riegel and Alpine are still in business and located a few blocks away from Porsche Calgary. I use all three business currently for my own classics. The point being that the car is a fully documented well-known local car, worked on by the best people in the city. The car has never been rusted, damaged or modified apart from the Jensen Stereo which was installed in the 80’s, and has since been replaced with the original Blaupunkt. The car still has the original body panels, floor pans with the original factory coatings. The car is spectacular to drive. I just can’t say enough about it other than it imparts deep feelings of mechanical satisfaction and joy! It starts up and idles beautifully, and revs cleanly throughout the rev range with no driveability issues. This is a quick car with strong low end torque that gets quite fierce over 4,000rpm. It has a gorgeous soundtrack, nimble chassis and talkative steering and has by far the best shifting 915 transmission (never rebuilt) I’ve ever sampled with virtually no sloppiness, and a very precise action. Like I said it is an absolute joy. Condition wise the car is hard to fault. It is a well-kept, original car that has been looked after and driven. There are some minor stone chips, a couple very small scratches, and slight windscreen pits. The engine bay is tidy and clean, but not ‘detailed’. I believe that there should be a chrome surround to the original radio which is not there. The Fuchs alloys have some faded paint. There are two service issues which we are addressing at present; one is the windshield washer motor needs to be replaced, and a cable to the heat exchangers looks to be broken. These will be fixed before sale.
