The British have a way of combining luxury, performance, and style in a way that is completely unique in the automotive world, and the E-Type is the ultimate expression of their craft. This bright red 1974 Jaguar XKE Series III open two-seater delivers everything that its looks promise in a fashion that is uniquely British. Showing just 71,309 original miles, this E-Type can justifiably be called a survivor. By 1974, the E-Type had grown, and was more of a grand touring machine than corner-carving sports car, but that's exactly the right place for it to live. This one has been carefully maintained over the years and repaired as necessary, but never fully disassembled or restored. It's easy to spot E-Types that have never been rusty or damaged, because their enormous bonnets fit well and the doors open and close easily, just as they do on this roadster. The vintage paint offers a soft vintage gloss that draws attention to the length of the front end and the curvaceous rear fenders, and few cars are better at attracting a crowd than this one. Sure, there are a few signs of use and age, but with the collector car world's current fascination with originality, it would be a real shame to repaint it. In addition, the chrome is very good, including the grille and bumpers, although the federally mandated rubber overriders don't do the styling any favors. Supple black hides fill the cabin with smells that others like Lexus have tried to duplicate, but never quite managed to succeed. The buckets are firm and supportive, and show very little wear aside from what the British refer to as "comfort marks" on the driver's seat cushion. Matching wool carpets have been fitted and their edges are bound for a neatly trimmed look, and the dash pad hasn't been baked by the sun. Handsome Smiths gauges are a British icon, and they're all functional, including the tachometer which offers a surprising 6500 RPM redline. More E-Type charm comes from the center stack with an array of rocker switches, auxiliary gauges, and an older AM/FM/cassette stereo head unit down low. The delicate T-handle shifter for the automatic transmission seems out of place in a car with this much performance, but somehow it fits the car's personality perfectly. The top is snug-fitting black canvas and the trunk, while shallow, is tastefully upholstered and in excellent condition. The 5.3 liter V12 was designed with Americans in mind, and its long legs and effortless torque make the E-Type an ideal long-distance cruiser. They're also surprisingly reliable, and even with those side-draft carburetors, easy for the skilled hobbyist to tune properly. The big cat just loafs along at normal highway speeds, but jabbing the accelerator results in a massive rush of torque and the most spine-tingling exhaust note this side of a Ferrari. The 3-speed automatic transmission always seems to be in the right gear, and the exhaust system looks brand new all the way back to the quad exhaust tips. The all-independent suspension perfectly balances handling and ride, and the Jag is equally at home on the interstate or a twisting mountain road, and with a history in Florida, rust is obviously not going to be a major issue here. Inboard disc brakes were a Jaguar tradition left over from racing, and brilliant chrome wire wheels with 185/70/15 redline radials are period perfect. This E-Type transcends boundaries, and instantly commands respect wherever it goes. Show up in this car and every man will want to be you, and every woman will want to find out how the passenger's seat feels. Fortunately, this 1994 Jaguar XJ6 Vanden Plas is beautifully maintained, shows just 62,179 original miles, and has all of the luxury and performance for which Jaguar is rightfully famous. Don't worry, we won't tell your friends and family how insanely affordable this car really is. Jaguar's reputation for smoothness, performance, and old-world luxury is earned honestly and this handsome sedan shows all of those virtues rather well. It's been properly maintained throughout its life, a fact demonstrated by the beautiful light blue paint, which is factory original except for the roof, which was repainted when the original vinyl top was removed. For a car that's more than 20 years old, the finish is extremely nice and definitely shows you that you got superior quality for your money when you bought a top-of-the-line luxury car. The long, low Jaguar profile should be instantly familiar, a look that was only recently replaced, so you aren't really in any danger of looking dated in this car because it never went out of style. Both bumpers are in exceptional condition, the big chrome grille shines up well, and details like the shiny metal surrounds around the windows and the twin tailpipes out back are undeniable Jaguar trademarks that are pure English luxury. The tan leather interior is where this Jag really shines. Natural materials abound: leather, wool, wood, all of which were finished to standards that only the craftsmen in Crewe, England seem to have mastered. It's beautifully preserved and the contrasting piping on the seats gives it a tailored look. Yes, the wood used inside Jaguars is real, not some simulated plastic, and the plush carpets feel impossibly luxurious under your feet. This Jag is thoroughly modern, too, with a full set of big, analog gauges, a trip computer, power everything, an effective climate control system, and an updated AM/FM/CD stereo head unit that sounds even better in the silence of the Jaguar's interior. There's minimal wear on the seating surfaces and even with a sunroof, the wood on the center console and throughout the car is beautifully preserved. The Vanden Plas model offered a longer wheelbase, all of which went into the back seat, so there's plenty of legroom in addition to a mini console for back seat passengers. And the trunk is just as well finished and includes a full-sized spare tire. The 4.0 liter inline-six is a worthy descendant of a long line of fantastic sporting sixes and it pulls the Vanden Plas around with aplomb. It's very well maintained and extremely clean under the hood with plenty of originality and signs of recent work. By 1994, Jaguar's reputation had been repaired and the cars were as reliable as any other major luxury brand and with so few miles, this car is rock solid under the hood. It's backed by a smooth-shifting 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission that works particularly well in manual mode, offering quick reflexes befitting the big cat. Underneath it shows off its southern heritage with an extremely clean chassis, no rust, and more signs of careful maintenance over the years. Heck, it's still using the original exhaust system! The supple yet capable suspension is a joy and the brakes are powerful, giving this big sedan the moves of a much smaller car. And those handsome alloy wheels look expensive and are wrapped in recent Pirelli radials. With just three owners, this might be the nicest XJ6 we've ever featured. Treat yourself to some A-list luxury at a very attractive price. Series I cars are pretty regularly selling for deep into six-figures and the Series II cars are on their way up. This 1969 XKE OTS is your way of getting in on the ground floor of the market, your chance to never have to say, "I should have bought one when..." You will probably never, ever see another usable 4-speed XKE convertible this affordably priced again. You know this car isn't perfection when you see the price, but it isn't a project, either. It's been repainted and the work was done a few years ago, so it has some signs of age and use, but this car has the basics down pat. It's not a rust bucket that was patched together from two or three other cars, and aside from one of the doors whose fit could use some tweaking, it fits together quite well. Bright yellow works well on the slinky E-Type shape and the car is a high-visibility piece no matter what color you paint it. There's a decent shine to the finish and it doesn't have any major issues that would prevent you from just going out and enjoying the car as-is. Someday you will want to repaint it, and values would justify a high-quality job, but this car will get you into the game right now at a very reasonable price. You'll also note that the chrome is excellent, including the bumpers, headlight trim, and even the luggage rack out back. At some point, the interior was reupholstered and they pretty much stuck to the factory look. There's matching yellow piping on the seats that lends a sporty flair, but otherwise it looks quite authentic. There are some minor signs of wear but overall it's quite good and a deep cleaning would probably make it really sparkle. The wood-rimmed Moto-Lita steering wheel is in excellent shape and the handsome Smiths gauges show well, although the tach is not functioning. And yes, this is a desirable 4-speed, making it the most road-worthy of the E-Types. There's more space in the cockpit, improved ergonomics, and if you're a driver, this is the one to own. A Pioneer AM/FM/CD stereo has been added, and it was neatly done so it doesn't stand out as an obvious modification. In case of foul weather, there's a standard folding convertible top, but you'll probably keep it stowed under the matching black boot most of the time. The 4.2-liter inline-six was designed to make more torque for American enthusiasts, and it's a total success in that regard. As I said, the Series II cars are the ones to own if you like to drive, as the fatter torque curve makes this car genuinely fast and with two rebuilt carbs, it runs superbly. The engine bay is a big grimy, but you could clean it up and take it up a notch, and there's plenty of evidence of recent work, including a new alternator. These cars have an undeserved reputation for being unreliable, but this one runs and drives very well and doesn't seem fussy in the least, so you should enjoy it every chance you get. The 4-speed shifts cleanly, the suspension nails Jaguar's combination of comfort and sporting, and the 4-wheel disc brakes are confidence-inspiring, even 46 years later. Beautiful chrome wire wheels are outfitted with radial tires, and we'll leave it to the next owner to decide whether it should wear whitewalls or blackwalls. You will not find a running, driving, presentable E-Type for less, that's a certainty. You can buy now, fix it up along the way, and it will be the smartest investment you've ever made. Don't be that guy in five years who had another opportunity to ride the rising tide of prices but passed it by. This long, low, wide 1995 XJS convertible proves that great design is timeless and even today, 20 years after the last one rolled off the assembly line, it still looks like it should cost tens of thousands of dollars more than it does. Dark colors always worked best on the XJS, and on this slinky convertible, basic black is an awesome choice. It has likely been repainted at some point, because the depth and shine of the paint is just too nice to be 20 years old, even though Jaguar paint was some of the best in the industry. It shows a few minor signs of use, but nothing that detracts from the dramatic styling and big eyeball appeal that this car generates. A single gold pinstripe from nose to tail highlights just how cleanly styled the XJS really was, but traditional British styling cues abound, from the chrome-rimmed bumpers to the oversized mirrors to the carefully sculpted hood that was meant to recall the E-Type's hood dome. The Euro headlights make this Americanized version look exactly the way its designers originally envisioned and the smoked taillights were a late addition that works rather well here. And all of it still looks like money on wheels, giving you A-list hardware at a very attractive price. The sumptuous leather interior is Jaguar at its best. Blending old-world craftsmanship and top-grade materials, it has withstood the test of time with only minor signs of age and wear. Obviously the driver's seat shows the most use, but there are no major tears or splits in the leather and the carpets are commendably clean and bright. The light-colored wood on the dash is real wood, not plastic, and the switchgear feels substantial in your hands. Big, bright gauges are traditional and easy to read, but the secondary controls are typically byzantine, a Jaguar trademark for many years. An AM/FM/cassette stereo may date the car a little bit, but it does sound good and the car also includes niceties such as power windows and locks, air conditioning, cruise control, and a tilt steering column. At some point, Jaguar figured out how to make a full drop-top work with the XJS, and the power canvas top folds easily and stows cleanly under a matching tan boot. And there's still a good-sized trunk in back, complete with a full-sized spare. By 1995, the V12 was gone, replaced by a 4.0 liter inline-six that was both more powerful and more efficient. Remember that all the great Jags of the past had six cylinder engines, so this one is descended from greatness. The big Jaguar valve cover recalls the E-Type and yes, it's pretty tight in there but it turns out that the six is reliable and parts are still affordable. It starts easily and purrs through a dual exhaust system and the 4-speed automatic transmission shifts almost imperceptibly. Jaguar's greatest calling card, however, has always been the combination of ride and handling, a dichotomous setting that's both sporting and luxurious. It's fully independent and there's a disc brake at all four corners, with the brakes receiving a major service just a few months ago. And nobody can argue that those gorgeous 5-spoke alloys don't look right, especially wrapped in fat Yokohama radials. Having lived almost all its life in the warm south, this is a solid, tight, clean Jag with an awesome look and an even more appealing price tag. Like its Mercedes SL competition, this is a high-quality car that looks a lot more expensive than it really is. Even a late XJS with a V12 like this 1990 model are cheaper than a 5-year-old Honda and with proper maintenance, they're far from the reliability nightmares that their ancestors were. So here's a great opportunity to own an A-list grand tourer for pennies on the dollar. Don't worry, we won't tell anyone how affordable it really is! This early 1990 XJS retains all the styling of the earlier models, as it was built before the July 1990 facelift. I call that a bonus, not a demerit, as the "facelift" only seemed to add boy-racer styling to one of the most striking and attractive designs of the 1970s. As a result, this car has a timeless elegance that will never be dated. The elegant light blue paint certainly helps with that air of refinement and the big cat never needs to make a scene, so subtlety is key. It's very nicely presented with only light signs of age and use, with a few paint repairs here and there to keep it looking fit. The flying buttresses are as dramatic here as they were when they first showed up in 1976 and Jaguar really knew how to use chrome, as there's just enough to show off the many wonderful details but not so much as to give it a heavy look. If nothing else, this Jag is impeccably dressed. And if you want impressive tailoring, just wait until you see inside! Beautifully upholstered blue leather buckets are matched by deep wool carpets and real burled walnut trim to make one of the most attractive interiors of the decade. The British have always been superb at combining materials in the most elegant way possible, and this car even smells expensive when you first climb in. Big, easy-to-read gauges are fitted in the dash and the airbag steering wheel eliminates the pesky passive restraints that plagued earlier cars. There's a later AM/FM/CD stereo in the dash that sounds decent in the hushed interior. Everything was standard equipment in the XJS, including A/C, power windows and locks, cruise control, and a tilt wheel, which was extremely uncommon in the early days of airbags. Aside from some slightly faded carpets, this interior is shockingly well-preserved for being nearly 25 years old. Even the trunk is nicely tailored and surprisingly large and includes a full-sized spare with matching alloy wheel. The 5.3 liter V12 engine provides the kind of effortless performance that you'd expect from Coventry's biggest cat. It's smooth and torquey, perfect for American roads, but highly refined with the most delicious exhaust note this side of a Ferrari Daytona. And while it's true that a neglected XJS can be insanely expensive to put right, a well-maintained one like this is a joy to own and remarkably easy on the wallet. Documented service work includes an A/C system overhaul, a new radiator, new brakes, a fresh fan clutch and alternator, replacement power steering pump, and a replacement exhaust system, so it's ready to enjoy. The transmission is a GM-sourced TH400 3-speed automatic (yes, really), so no worries about expensive service work there, and the suspension is as smooth and competent as ever. Factory alloys remain in very good condition and carry 16-inch performance radials. With service receipts included, this is a Jaguar you can buy with confidence, and frankly, at this price, you'd be crazy not to. It's definitely an A-list celebrity ride.
