FOR ADDITIONAL PICTURES PLEASE INQUIRE The Mercedes Benz 190E Cosworth is one of the most beloved driver’s cars for its applicability on the road and its famous rivalry with BMW. Mercedes was dominating the racetrack with the 190E with BMW simply not able to keep up which ultimately led to the birth of the E30 M3 as BMW’s counter attack to the 190E. Its close relationship with the E30 M3, the performance, as well as the rarity of these cars are what have made them so desirably to any enthusiast. These elements also give these cars a strong potential in the market and would make a good investment worthy addition to any collection. This example is a 1986 Mercedes Benz 190E Cosworth, VIN number WDBDA34D3GF208148, and is a matching numbers example that has recently came out of long term ownership from Florida and its since been relocated to its current home in Philadelphia. The exterior of this car shows as driver quality condition with the pearl black paint having been resprayed at some point during this car’s life. It has begun to display some fading on some of the plastic exterior panels but this coincides with a driver quality example. There are also some very minor chips in the front hood which can be attributed to necessary road use. In order to bring this car up to a show quality collectors piece, the body would certainly need to undergo a complete repaint. However, there is no rust or known major issues found in our inspection. A simple strip and repaint would make a big difference. Close inspection of the wheels will show that they are in good shape with only some minor curb rash to note. Moving to the interior of the car it is in good shape with the exception of the trim falling away from the interior of the A-pillars which is a minor item to tend to. The front seat is also beginning to split at the front seam but besides these couple of items, the rest of the interior shows very well. This example has received a completely new shifter boot, knob, and a full dash that really spruces up the interior. All of the gauges and electronics function as they should with the odometer reading 36,000 miles. Aside from the minor issues noted, the remainder of the interior is in good overall condition. The engine bay shows well and is consistent with the mileage overall and still showing as a driver quality example. All the proper tags and stickers are still present making the engine bay very correct in appearance. The trunk area is consistent with the rest of the car and still holds the original spare. The underside is in good shape as well with no known rust or evidence of any major repairs preformed. As far as the drivability of this particular car is concerned, in does start but in order to keep it running you must keep it above 1500RPM. The fuel system beginning to go bad is some form or fashion which is a common trait for these Cosworth MB’s when they are not driven on a regular basis. I suspect a clogged fuel filter but one would have to further investigate in order to confirm or deny that. Once this is addressed and a general service is preformed the mechanics should be dialed in and the car ready to be driven. In summation, this example is an excellent base to either tend to mechanically to enjoy as a road worthy daily driver, or launch a basic restoration which would include getting the cosmetics in order to bring it up to more of a show quality standard. Either way, this car poses not only a significant market potential but with a bit of mending, but an authentic driver’s car that can be enjoyed on any occasion once further invested in and improved upon.
