Please D O N O T bid if you do not have funds in hand and/or cannot complete the transaction! We welcome and encourage inspections during the listing time frame. 1958 Porsche 356A Speedster Chassis No. 84375 Engine No. 68173 Exciting Discovery of a Final Year T2 Speedster Numbers-Matching Engine and Transmission Recent Major Service and Detailing Completed Originally Delivered in 5705B Fjord Green / Tan Offered with Porsche Kardex & Porsche Certificate of Authenticity Conceived to meet a specific price point, it was a Spartan purpose-built sporting machine with minimal equipment and no needless accoutrements. Speedsters included a revised windshield that significantly lowered the look of the car. A chrome strip down the side of the car was also added and gone were unnecessary items. With the reduced weight from the elimination of many trim items, these rakishly designed models are even more exciting and fun to drive. Presented here is an exciting final year T2 Speedster, completed on the 1st of September 1958, wearing 5705B Fjord Green over Tan upholstery and destined to Hoffman Motors in New York. Today it displays an aged repaint in red which was applied decades ago when having a red sports car was the fad. The red paint was applied directly over the factory Fjord Green paint which can be seen throughout in areas of wear. The interior remains original and has held up well showing a nicely aged patina. After years of enjoyment the car was stowed away in a California garage decades ago until this year, when it was acquired from its long-term caretaker. Here in Houston, the Speedster was brought back up to roadworthiness with a comprehensive mechanical tune-up addressing the brakes, fuel system including removal and relining of the fuel tank, ignition, electrical and carburation systems. The vehicle’s undercarriage is largely original, aside from the battery tray which was replaced. Power is provided by a solid, Zenith carbureted numbers-matching engine and transmission. Correct drum brakes covered by 4½ x15” 1957 date coded wheels and moon caps suit accordingly. Weather equipment includes the original black cloth top with original side curtains. The body # “375” which matches the last three digits of the VIN number are found stamped on the rear deck lid and doors. The original jack, tool roll and 11/57 dated spare with its original Michelin tire accompany the Speedster. This great Porsche is ideal to use in a variety of ways including driving events and vintage rallies or would make a great base to return it back to its original Fjord green color, the body and gaps are straight and consistent throughout. A 356 Speedster has become a must have for any serious collection and qualifies for numerous touring events around the world. Original “Matching-Numbers” examples are increasingly difficult to find making this car one of very few available globally. We encourage serious consideration of this example and are happy to set up inspections or answer any questions. A true highlight of our summer “Lost and Found” offerings. $296,500.00 FIRM Full Resolution Photos: 1958 Porsche 356A Speedster To learn more about this vehicle, please contact our sales department at (281) 497-1000 or [email protected] SELLING YOUR CAR? This is a factory original car. COA describes it as an Autureum Green/ tan interior 1600 Normal. Restoration began in 2002 with a 1600 SC engine designed to appear as proper 1958 Super engine. Factor Speedster seats were refinished that same year and are leather and match interior perfectly. Top to bottom body restoration began in 2012. This was a bare metal restoration with all old paint/bondo removed and replaced by LEAD filler. Fjord Green is a proper 1957-59 Porsche exterior color. All chrome was restored and all rubber was replaced. Car bottom was also restored. This car won the 2013 Colorado Concourse (30th anniversary) in its class. Own a very fast piece of history!

This unique racecar is the product of one collector’s longtime dream to tastefully crossbreed the elegant appearance of a Karmann Ghia with the powerful engineering of a Porsche 356 Speedster. Beginning its life as a standard 1967 Karmann Ghia, this car was built at coachbuilder Karmann’s Osnabruck, Germany factory with the celebrated design penned by Italian styling house Ghia. Following its export to the United States, this car was acquired by a Colorado collector who drove it lovingly for many years. Like many ardent enthusiasts, this collector long prized the Karmannn Ghia’s outstanding good looks, but lamented the underwhelming performance offered by its stock VW running gear. What if, he wondered, the more powerful engine and delicate details of a Porsche 356 Speedster were merged with the Ghia’s clean lines and beautiful proportions? The owner’s first step was retaining close friend Tom Conway, a former Carrera Panamerica race driver who has specialized in the restoration, rebuild and upgrade of classic Porsche's since 1962. Starting with the body, Mr. Conway chopped off the coupe’s roof, reshaped the nose with a splitter and period chin spoiler, and lengthened the wheel wells to resemble those of a Speedster. A rollbar and full cage were added to reinforce the structural integrity and ensure safety driver during racing. Mr. Conway then integrated some classic Porsche components, such as a Speedster windshield, headlights and bezels and a 356 rear lid engine vent. Proper 356 brakes and suspension components were installed, as was an engine from a 1968 Porsche 912. The 1,582 cc 912 motor was chosen because it is the ultimate evolution of Porsche’s classic 4-cylinder case and is therefore not only more reliable and ideally sized for the Karmann Ghia’s rear engine compartment, but also a direct descendant of the 4-cylinder units used in the 356. Mr. Conway furthermore tweaked the Ghia’s transmission, creating a close-ratio gearbox that delivers surprising torque and devilishly quick 0-60 mph sprints. Cosmetic considerations included fitting the interior with proper 356 instruments, a late 356 shifter, and Corbeau racing seats. In total, Mr. Conway’s exacting work took four years and a significan't investment. Thus, despite its significant investment and ownership by top names in the collector car niche, this car still features only 4,700 miles on its odometer. Displaying a warm patina to its exceptionally detailed red paint, this powerful Karmann Ghia Speedster Special features a removable hood with pins, Minilite wheels, and Raydyot side mirrors. Its Solex carburetors have recently been rebuilt, ensuring flawless mechanical performance and breathtaking acceleration. Its blistering and definitive Porsche performance is matched only by its seamless aesthetic blend of two of Germany’s most beloved sports cars, Osnabruck’s beautiful Karmann Ghia, and Stuttgart’s cherished 356 Speedster. **ALL TRADES WELCOME (Cars, Trucks, ATV's RV's, Classics, Exotic's) Loess Hills Harley-Davidson Pacific Junction, Iowa Call Jeff 712-520-4606 or 712 622-4000
